Summer Workshop

Below you will find all the details about upcoming workshops over the Summer months.
Classes will continue throughout the Summer also, just condensed into one day, so usual times and days may change but I will message all parents about this just before it happens.

Squishies Workshop

Saturday June 13th
10am-3pm
(5hrs approx.)
€55 (Includes all costs)
This ones for the kids! We’ll have plenty of fun in the morning making a giant squishy pencil that actually writes.
Make sure to bring a snack along as we’ll chill-out around lunchtime before getting back to it in the afternoon to make our own customised foil balloon designs.
A really fun and creative tactile experience for all.

D.I.Y Kaleidoscope

Who hasn’t at one point in their life stared through a kaleidoscope in wonder and amazement?
Well now’s your opportunity to make your very own one.
This workshop will focus on making a cool customised kaleidoscope with interchangeable mechanical parts so you’ll never get bored of it.
This workshop caters to both teens and kids.

Handmade
(Teens)
Thursday-Friday July 9th-10th
10am-1pm (Both days)

This fun two day workshop is for the teens.
In this handmade workshop students will learn some studio practice by doing some woodworking, screen stretching, carving, cutting, binding, pressing etc. Real hands on techniques to create their very own set of handmade brushes and dip pens, along with handmade papers.
Day one will be all about making the paper so it will be dry to take home the next day.
Day two will be about making the brushes with carved twigs, wax and string etc., then also
making a set of dip pens to take home.
This is the type of workshop I would’ve loved to have gone to when I was a young artist starting out.

Wax Work

Thursday-Friday July 23rd-24th
10am-1pm (Both days)

This two day workshop caters to both kids and teens.
On the first we will learn how to use a Djanting, a very specific tool used to draw with wax. We will use this to create our very own wax resist t-shirt design.
On day two we will learn about the process of batik printing then design and carve our own printing block before creating a cool wax print design onto a tote-bag.
Plenty of hands on skills and control to be learned here, along with fabric dying and design processes.

Day out
(Kids)
Friday August 21st

We had such a great adventure last year on our day out that we had to do it again. But this time instead of a castle, lakes and forest, we’ll have the beach, the sea and the forest.
First things first we’ll spend the first part of the morning making our own handmade notebooks to bring with us on our adventure.
Then we’ll hop on our very own private bus to whisk us off to the Raven Woods in Curracloe. Here we will trek through the forest taking in the sights and sounds of nature while capturing them in our newly made notebooks. Plenty of drawing challenges and games to be had before picnicking on the beach, so bring a snack. Then we’ll hike back to catch the bus home.

The Bray Day out

Probably the most popular workshop in the Summer programme.
Its a great, fun, two-day workshop for the teens, where we make a handmade sketchbook on the first day, ready to bring with us the following day to fill up with drawing challenges and records of our adventures.
We’ll take in the sights and coffee shops and galleries before picnicking on the seafront, so bring a snack, then we’ll hit the arcade before catching the train back home.
We got the sunshine last year, so fingers crossed we’ll get it again this year. Either way we’ll have loadsa fun :)

Weekly Classes

After school Art Classes
(8-12yrs) & (13-18yrs)
After school art classes are centered around learning the fundamentals of art, through drawing and painting using pencil, charcoal, ink, watercolour and acrylics. Students are taught a variety of techniques in how to compose their work while being encouraged to develop and realise their own ideas.
It all happens in the Light and Shadow studios which offers a comfortable, relaxed environment where students come to express themselves in a social surround of like minded individuals.

Evening Classes for Adults
If you’ve always been interested in art or wished you could let out that creative side of yourself, then join us in the relaxed atmosphere of the upstairs studios in Light and Shadow and unlock that side of yourself. You’ll be surrounded by like-minded people and no matter your ability or level, you will be welcomed.
Classes are run weekly and centre around painting and drawing using a variety of mediums. All materials are supplied so you just need to bring yourself and your willingness to learn :)
